At present, the material culture of the Verkhoyansk Yakuts requires further study in spite of the fact that the basin of the Yana River is one of the three main centers of the Yakut settlement, along with the Leno-Amginsky interfluve and the Vilyui river. This lack of study was due to the long absence of specific archaeological and ethnographic research in the region, the results of which would allow one to describe the way of life and a culture of the local Yakut population. Until recently, the medieval history of the Verkhoyansk district was based entirely on the folklore and ethnography; specific monuments of this period were unknown. The article lists the main categories of objects and items obtained as a result of excavations of the 18th–19th centuries Yakut burials by the Sakha-French archaeological expedition (MAFSO) in 2010–2012. All the investigated materials are 27 burials of the four areas ("nasleg"): men’s, women’s, children’s and adolescent’ burials, which indicate high degree of closeness and similarity of clothes, ornaments and inventory of the Verkhoyansk Yakuts to ones from Central Yakutia. The obtained data along with other sources confirm the basic hypothesis that settling of the Yakuts in the North-East occurred during the annexation of Yakutia into the Russian State.
