ARCHAEOLOGICAL FIELD WORK IN THE DORDOGNE PROVINCE (south-western France)

In April 2018, a group of graduate students and students-archaeologists from Novosibirsk State University and Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography SB RAS took part in the archaeological excavations of the upper Palaeolithic site, Fourneau du Diable, in south-west of France. Solutreen site Fourneau du Diable is located in Dordogne, close to River Dronne. The excavations were organized by the researches from ARTEMIR and PACEA laboratories of the University of Bordeaux. The program of stay in France included participation in excavations, visits to a number of archaeological sites of the Palaeolithic of the South-West of France, a series of lectures and workshops organized by French researchers who participated in field work on site. The experience of participation in field works allowed young researches to form an idea of the specifics of the study of the Palaeolithic sites in France; to deepen knowledge about the upper Palaeolithic of this region; and expanded ideas about the possibilities of an interdisciplinary approach in the study of Palaeolithic objects.
